New Alloys from Bayer/Krupp
In a joint development with Bayer, Krupp has developed Nicrofer 3033 (Alloy 33), a ductile austenitic alloy containing 30% nickel, 33% chromium and that is high in nitrogen, which offers superior corrosion resistance in nitric acid and nitric hydrofluoric mixes, and sea water. Alloy 33 combines high strength and ductility with excellent corrosion resistance. It can displace super duplex alloys as it can achieve strengths above 1,200N/mm2 by additional cold work. The alloy is available in all product forms. Another new gas turbine alloy is available from Krupp is Alloy 2100GT. This has a high carbon and aluminium content, which gives excellent high temperature mechanical properties and oxidation resistance. Tantalum further enhances both room temperature and elevated temperature properties.
